Week 01 - The Designer Behind The Game
On Thursday August 25th, 2022 I attended my first college game design course. It was an overall good day as my professor introduced himself after the first 45 minutes of class and then prompted us outside to play a game of Ninja. Childhood games have always been a favorite of mine as they allow your mind to take a break from statistics and focus on strategy and imagination. Some of my favorite games focus on finding out the mysteries and secrets of a new world. Little Nightmares for example is a beloved indie puzzle-platformer horror game I very much enjoyed playing. From the sound design to the off-putting creature creations, Little Nightmares leaves you with a lot of questions as you are never told directly in the game of what's going on. So far the franchise has four different games where you play as four different children like characters that all connect into one big story. Although I am not one who enjoys horror films I do enjoy piecing together secrets of a game even if I don’t fully understand it’s meaning. YouTube channels such as Game Theory and SuperHorrorBro have been enjoyable to listen to while I run errands or do my chores around the house. Theorizing about an event or overall story of a game is what I find most enjoyable when I’m looking for a new Let’s Play to watch.
